Beauty

Mindi Meltz
Hidden Door Press (2008)
ISBN 9780980177398
Reviewed by Danelle Drake for Rebecca’s Reads (07/09)

I have never read a more sensual book. The words flow as poetry in this masterpiece. Complex simplicity will have you engulfed in the pages, unable to stop as you become the girl, as you become the boy, as you become the deer, as you become.

Beginning at a new chapter in her life the girl has shelter in a simple cabin and employment assisting wildlife. Her connection to the animals is in contrast to her lack of connection to other humans. Seeing her world from her perspective enables you to put yourself in her shoes and live life as few do. Experiencing each footstep your senses will come alive within the pages. Relationships are observed and raw emotions are exhibited as becoming what she is destined to become becomes closer and then seems to slip away.

The words of Mindi Meltz are pure beauty: “The dance, supplicating and proud, that it danced with the world and with me.” “Have you ever seen the moment where light begins? Have you stood outside at the beginning of the dawn, and seen sight itself become?”

Many books touch the life of the reader. "Beauty" by Mindi Meltz has touched me in ways which would be hard to describe. I have new empathy for those that tend to be reclusive, closeness to those that love the Mother Earth and all its beings, and added compassion for us human’s as we try to navigate thru.
